Sofia Corticeiro, researcher of the BESIDE project, recently participated in the International Conference on “Equality and Diversity in Forestry: Changing the Image of Forestry”, held on 24-25 October 2024 in Portorož, Slovenia. As a member of WOFO (Women in Forestry International), Sofia joined leading voices on advancing inclusivity and equality in the forest and timber sector.
The conference focused on young women in forestry and how to change the image of forestry from a traditionally male-oriented sector to an equality-oriented and inclusive one. The main purpose of the conference was to empower women in forestry, strengthen international networking among women and find new ways and opportunities to involve young people in the forestry sector.
The first day had lectures and discussion about equality and diversity in forestry, from education to workforce, and about changing the image of forestry and promote cooperation. The second day was dedicated to visit to forest areas and post-fire recovery areas in Slovenian Istria.
