On May 24th and 25th the WIN-BIG – Women in Blue Economy Intelligence Gathering and Capacity Boosting project, led by Helena Vieira, from the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) at the University of Aveiro (UAveiro), will be present in several sessions of the 2023 edition of the European Maritime Day, in Brest, France.
Starting on the afternoon of May 24th, the WINBIG project will be present at the Maritime Stakeholders event “Women in Blue Economy”, co-organized by Roma Tre University, Confitarma and WISTA to debate the state of the art and near future initiatives to boost female careers in this sector.
On the same day, WIN-BIG will officially kick-off with a work meeting between the coordination team and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) project teams.
On May 25th, WIN-BIG will officially be launched in a joint pitch session with its sister WIN-BLUE project on the main stage at the exhibition area.
Led by Helena Vieira of CESAM, WIN-BIG’s main objective is to assess the gender status and training needs of women in the emerging sectors of the European “blue economy”, specifically in the six sea basins: Atlantic, Arctic, North Sea, Mediterranean, Baltic, and Black Sea. The project will focus on mapping these aspects from a socio-economic perspective and offering some capacity building modules in 3 of the 6 sea basins.
Fourteen partners from nine European Union (EU) countries are involved in this initiative.
European Maritime Day is the EU’s annual meeting point for maritime affairs and sustainable blue growth, and the place where “Ocean Leaders Meet”.
The event offers a diverse program of recognized speakers, thematic sessions, workshops and pitch sessions organized by stakeholders and the European Commission. It is an engaging and interactive experience that brings together companies, governments, public institutions, NGOs and universities, as well as EU citizens interested in maritime affairs.
