BESIDE Researcher Mariana Almeida participated in the Annual Conference of the European Marine Science Education Association (EMSEA), held from 23 to 26 September 2024 in Zadar, Croatia. Representing the BESIDE project, and CESAM/University of Aveiro, Mariana presented insights on integrating blue economy concepts into ocean literacy initiatives.
In a session moderated by Silja Teege, titled “Ocean Literacy and the Blue Economy”, Mariana spoke about “How are blue economy concepts being integrated into ocean literacy initiatives?” Her talk emphasised innovative practices and educational tools that align sustainable marine resource use with a deeper understanding of ocean ecosystems.
Mariana Almeida is a member of the EMSEA Advisory Group, where she works alongside other members to enhance association’ visibility within the European and global ocean literacy community.
This year’s conference took place in the historic city of Zadar, offering a Mediterranean setting to explore pressing topics such as ocean literacy, education, and the blue economy. The event brought together scientists, educators, and professionals to share innovative practices and examine the role of ocean literacy in fostering sustainable ocean management.
